Day One or Day Two… not quite sure at the moment? 25/2/18

I guess today is the first official day of our journey, well for me anyway.

Woke up feeling a little better about our DNF at the Rottnest Channel Swim yesterday. Unfortunately, we were stopped from completing the crossing at the 12km mark thanks to a shark sighting. This is probably another sign for me to stay out of the water indefinitely but instead of feeling defeated, woke up rip roar ready to tackle it again next year.

Had breakfast with Pete and the boys and then it was time for them to hit the road back to Geraldton and for me to ponder the day by myself.  After a quick chat with Caz, I discovered that all my careful planning of departing on different planes at the same time was completely off the mark.  They were leaving from the domestic airport, me from the international airport, Oops!

My sad lonely day alone was stopped in its tracks when gorgeous Carmela invited me to her Mums for an Ialeggio family lunch.  Beautiful Italian feast spent with a beautiful family.

Next back to Carmela’s, freshen up and then an escort to the airport from one of those beautiful family members, her nephew Chris.  The time at the airport alone went surprisingly quicker than I expected, and I managed to stay awake for my 11.55pm departure, well past my normal 7 pm bedtime.

Flight to Hong Kong was fine, managed to navigate my way to the next gate and then here I am, sitting on the flight, beginning my first blog post on our 7-month trip away.

The days have blurred together, the body is probably not going to love it soon and I have 14 or so hours ahead, so let’s see how it goes.
