Need exercise! 25/03/18

I need to do some exercise this morning. My pants don’t fit!

Up earlier than usual, breakfast and a nice walk along the path outside of the resort.  Passed lots and lots of all-inclusive, eat your heart out, bake in the sun at the pool or beach, hotels. Just like ours.

It was lovely to get some movement in the legs. Back to our hotel and down to the pool for some sitting, swimming, and baking…

And some eating, time for lunch.

Dropped Wes at the kids club, Noah back to do some maths and a bit of work for Pete and me.

Dinner at the sports bar then up to our room ready for a new day.

Mmm, more food – 24/03/18

Unfortunately, we wasted most of the morning packing up our room ready to be transferred to a new one, only to be told we are staying in the same one.

The Royal Sands Resorts is predominantly a timeshare property so most people arrive and depart on a Saturday.  We booked on Booking.com, arriving on a Tuesday.  We were aware and had been told again on check-in that if we were staying over a Saturday we would need to change rooms.

We even double-checked again in the morning to be told to wait in our room between 11-12 to be collected.

Nothing happened. Called to check…

Oh, you are staying in your room until next Saturday,  they just forgot to inform us…sorry for the inconvenience.

There are worse things in life that can happen.

Topped up breakfast with lunch.

Spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool.

Buffet dinner for the boys and a delicious seafood platter for Pete and I. Total food coma.

The eat-fest continues – 23/03/18

Up late again, breakfast and a short walk around the hotel.

Schoolwork, work, and more eating, lunch.

With almost a month of spending time with only us, the boys were ready to play with some other kids (we were ready). It was off to the kids club for the afternoon, much to Noah’s horror.

More work for Pete & I and then the gym.

Hit the buffet for dinner, I think I am about to explode.

Cruisy Cancun – 22/03/18

Late morning after receiving some awfully sad news of the passing of a friend in Geraldton overnight.

Spent the whole day in a bit of a daze.

Had breakfast in the room, some school work with the boys and then a stroll and shop in Cancun.

More eating, lunch, work and then the gym for me. Basketball for the boys and…more eating, dinner.

It’s becoming an eat-fest

Warm, warm, warm – 21/03/18

After checking out the gym yesterday I was all keen to restart my fitness regime.

Set my alarm for 5.45am but during the night I had started to get a sore throat and sore ears again, the gym didn’t quite happen.

Are you kidding me, I cannot be sick, again!

We had a small sleep in and then down to the buffet for breakfast. Feeling very average.

Did our washing and then spent the morning lazing around the pool.

Time for the buffet lunch.  After filling up Pete and Noah went back to the room and Wes and I went for a lovely stroll along the beach. Finished it off with a nice cold cool drink.

Back to the room for a bit of relaxing and catching up on work before dinner.

Cancun, Mexico – 20/03/18

An early 2.30am start for our 6am flight from Reno via Phonix to Cancun Mexico.

Both Pete and I did not sleep well. Although, I never do when I have to catch an early flight.

Easy Uber (love Uber) to the airport, help with our seating and the up, up and away!

The 2 hr + 4 hr flight was painless with only a small about of turbulence. This flying thing does not seem to get any easier for me.

Finally, we arrived in Mexico and the warm weather.

Settled into our room and then strolled downstairs to look at the hotel and enjoy our first buffet dinner for 14 nights.

Have I mentioned the hotel is all-inclusive? It is like candy to a kid.

Back to our gorgeous ocean view room, a little bit of Miss Congeniality II and then time for some zzzzzzzz.

Are we party animals or what…

Last Day in Reno – 19/03/18

We started the day with some school work with the boys and another semi-healthy breakfast.

It looked like a beautiful day outside so at about 11am we decided to go for a nice walk along the river. The day was gorgeous and the winter sun beautiful and warm.

Found a park along the river and let the boys run wild and run out some endless energy. Also, found a lovely funky cafe for lunch. They thought a toasted ham, cheese and pineapple sandwich was a very strange order.

Stroll back to the hotel and then an early dinner and pack ready for Mexico tomorrow. Oh, and a little bit of Friends for me.

The Hills Are Alive – 18/03/18

The weather is lovely and sunny in Reno this morning, although the temperature is still around -6.

And best of all, the cast made it to Reno so The Sound of Music musical is on!

A little bit of school work, a semi-healthy breakfast and then an Uber to the Reno Planetarium.

Left the boys to enjoy their day at 12pm to catch my Uber to the theatre. The musical was brilliant. Managed to hold back tears of happiness throughout the show but they began to slide towards the end and during the standing ovation, and then again when telling Pete about how good it was.

After the Planetarium Pete, Noah, and Wes explored the Reno museum.  It was a shame they could not see the musical but after discovering that it was on while we were in Reno the musical was sold out with just a few odd tickets.

All reunited in the hotel room at 4 pm for a rest before dinner.

Amazing teppanyaki dinner at the hotel and then back to the room for Friends and bed, we must be killing Pete with Friends.

Back to Reno – 17/03/18

Still basking in the thoughts of the warm weather we may be in soon, Reno didn’t seem so cold today.  It is still -4 outside.

Managed to have a healthy breakfast at the hotel and tried to make the best of our situation of cold weather and a hotel full of all-day drinkers, smokers, and slots.

Even managed to do some school work with the kids.

We really should do as Beavis and Butthead would, and “get me some slots” 😳.

Decided instead to introduce the next generation to gambling and took the boys to the kid’s arcade area at Circus Circus, gave them $20 on an arcade card and told them to knock themselves out. I think Wes could easily walk away with a gambling addiction, he was giddy with excitement.

After the money and the winners rush was gone we spent some time walking around the undercover sin city and managed some lunch at a food court.

I could easily get into day time drinking here.

After lunch, we had a small walk downtown and found the theatre where I will hopefully see the Sound of Music musical tomorrow.

Looks like the show will be weather dependent. They had to cancel today’s show as the road from San Francisco to Reno is still closed and the actors can’t get through.

Back to the hotel, catch up on work and then back down to the Cas for a dinner of Joy Noodles and another night in.  Pete was going to go to a local basketball game but the thought of rugging up for the snow and cold outside lost out to the four walls of our hotel room and the potential of watching Friends.

Goodbye Squaw Valley – 16/03/18

Pete didn’t sleep a lot last night, believe it or not, I managed to sleep very well.

At some stage, during the night he had decided it might be time to leave Squaw Valley.  It was still snowing heavily, I still couldn’t believe I didn’t feel like skiing and if we didn’t make a move soon we may not get out of here for a while.

So, once we had all woken up the decision had been made. Spent the morning doing the washing, booking some extra nights in Reno and then ready for our taxi transfer at 11am to Reno.

We almost didn’t get out as there was a major crash blocking the road from Reno to Squaw Valley and Hwy 80 from San Francisco to Squaw Valley also was closed due to a high snow level.

Eventually, the road from Reno to the slopes was opened, our Uber cowboy arrived and away we went.

Pretty white snow drive from Squaw Valley to Reno which is now also covered in snow.

Arrived at Harrah’s hotel which will be our accommodation for the next four nights.

Spent the afternoon going around in circles as to where to go next.

In the end, it came down to one thing, somewhere warm. Not just take your jacket off and leave your jeans on warm, bloody warm.

Mexico won, and for two weeks. This little weak weather Aussie is over the cold weather.

At this rate, we will arrive back in the US just in time to take our cruise out of Miami….to the Caribbean. The legs are going to be out, out, out.

Happy about the next move, only four days to get through the cold here.

Japanese for dinner, found Friends on TV (sorry Pete) and then bed.
